1. Clinical organisation

Adolescent gender care in Denmark has been centralised at Rigshospitalet (Sexologisk Klinik), Copenhagen, since 2016. Referrals go via the general practitioner and child psychiatrist.

2. Sundhedsstyrelsen guideline 2024

The Danish health authority published a revised guideline in 2024 that included:

  • Extended observation period (at least 12 months) before hormone treatment — stricter application of inclusion criteria.
  • Mandatory assessment of psychiatric comorbidity, autism and trauma — see exclusion criteria.
  • Acknowledgement of the experimental character of GnRHa in minors.
